Local spatial planning in Karpacz considers green infrastructure
In the Polish Karkonosze National Park case study area the focus is on enhancing green infrastructure elements within and outside of the park area. To achieve this the National Park administration is cooperating closely with the communities surrounding the protected area. On 26th April 2019 another consultation took place in the Municipality of Karpacz regarding the green infrastructure (GI) in its territory. Representatives from the Karkonosze National Park, the mayor and the magistrate's employees, councillors and other active residents of Karpacz exchanged their views in the meeting.Together they indicated the benefits of preserving green elements such as meadows, wetlands, groups of trees, avenues, and single trees. Using maps and spatial data the participants identified the elements of green infrastructure and assigned them functions that affect the quality of life in Karpacz. This will enable them to integrate selected GI elements into the local territorial strategy and plan for Karpacz, which is currently being updated.
