TalkNET: Logistics and transport between sustainability and market needs

Is really possible to find a link between "market needs" and "environmental sustainability"?

As reported by European Commission, transport is heavily dependent on imported oil. And while most sectors have been reducing CO2 emissions, transport’s share has been steadily increasing. By 2050, we need to have greatly reduced those CO2 emissions and made inroads into tackling congestion and environmental pollution. To achieve Europe’s targeted 80% CO2 reduction by 2050 compared to 1990, oil consumption in the transport sector must drop by around 70% from today, implying a revolution in transport fuels and the way we travel.
In the logistics sector the traditional way of thinking is still prevalent nonetheless many changes are coming. Disruptive innovations and reliable technologies are getting in the market. Knowing them is he first step to find the key to support a better transport sustainability. “Logistics and transport between sustainability and market needs" event goes in this direction promoting an open dialogue involving key players of the sector.

10.00 - 12.30: Panel talks

PANEL 1: Innovation in the transport sector

It says that the most recent innovation in the transport sector is the combustion engine. The provocative statement describes in a very direct way the reticence to adopt innovative solutions by the players of the sector. It is not just a matter of lack of resilience but in many cases low marginalities limit the potentiality of investments of transport operators. Nonetheless, the time to challenge the common mind-set seems finally arrived.

MODERATOR: Sergio Barbarino, President, ALICE

SPEAKERS: Clément Chandon, ENEA Heavy Liner, Gas Business Development, IVECOMarc Verelst, Supply Chain Innovation Manager, P&GJoost De Bock, expert on transport&logistics research projects, former European Commission officerSilhacek Michal, Category Manager Land, Global Transport & Services, IKEA

PANEL 2: Environment

None product has a value if the offer does not match the demand. That is why transport is so important: it gives value to any commodity. If it is true that a world without transport is not possible, it is anyway caustic to think about a world choked by pollution. What are the most promising solutions and approaches to solve the problem?

MODERATOR: Mr Christian Doepgen, publication director and chief-editor, International Transport Journal

SPEAKERS: David Ledesma, Senior Research Fellow, Oxford Institute for Energy StudiesPino Musolino, President of the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority (TalkNET Lead Partner) Guido Grimaldi, President ALISLajos Veer, downstream LNG Road - Team Lead, Europe, SHELL

The meeting took place in the framework of TalkNET project devoted to strength cooperation among freight transport stakeholders in central European area. The project has just started but it has already defined some pilot actions aiming to test eco-innovations and new solutions for transport and logistics. The idea at the base is that none of the desired changes can really occurred without a strict cooperation among the most relevant players of the supply chain.

Codognotto Poland is the promoting organization of the meeting. The company is part of Codognotto Group, a global logistics operator with 1000 Professionals and 50 offices located in more than 20 countries. Codognotto Poland is partner of TalkNET.

ECRR Policy Conference

First big open event in the frame of ECRR

Almost at the middle of the project's implementation, the first big open event is taking place in Erfurt on the 28th of November 2017.

By then the main steps setting the base for the European Cultural Route of Reformation will be made. Organized right after the closing of the 500th Reformation Jubilee, ECRR aims at positioning itself and the Route as a stable and sustainable option to keep Reformation and its cultural heritage activated, independently from special celebrations and commemorations, as well as to raise awareness about the high diversity within Reformation movements and processes. The event seeks to enable networking amongst relevant actors from all the involved regions and foster a feeling of unity and belonging among them. At the same time, the importance and potential of cultural heritage, Reformation cultural heritage and European Cultural Routes for regional development, tourism and education should be highlighted and made aware to all participants.

The final goal of this event is the "ceremonial" signing of the TAP by some of the Route's founding members.

The registration is open until the 31st of October under this link: bit.ly/2vaAtJ1
