As you may know, the lynx is one of the key species at the heart of the LECA project, and we are committed to raising awareness about these incredible animals across Europe. One effective way we are doing this is by expanding our efforts beyond the project itself—fostering collaboration across initiatives to share knowledge and create meaningful outcomes. The Together for Lynx documentary is a perfect example of this approach. The cooperation between the LECA and LIFE Lynx projects highlights the power of working together to make a real impact.
The documentary film of the LIFE Lynx project is creating a buzz across Europe, raising awareness about the efforts to save the Dinaric-SE Alpine lynx population from the brink of extinction. To reach an even wider audience, it has been showcased at film festivals, aired on national TV, and featured at various events. Over 8,000 people have already tuned in on the LIFE Lynx YouTube channel, where the film is available with subtitles in Italian, English, Romanian, Croatian, Slovenian, and German.
The documentary is now available with Hungarian subtitles. “We at the WWF Hungary recognised the importance of the film as a great example for collaboration between the different stakeholder groups for a common goal, achieving better trust and we wanted to show it to the Hungarian audience”, says Dávid Sütő, Large Carnivore Programme Leader at WWF Hungary. The Hungarian-subtitled version of Together for Lynx premiered at the Carnivore Carnival Festival in Répáshuta at the end of September and is now available online.
What is the documentary about?
The LIFE Lynx project is making a bold move to save Europe’s largest wild cat by bringing 18 lynxes from the Carpathian Mountains to Slovenia and Croatia. This carefully planned translocation aims to introduce new genetic diversity to the inbred Dinaric-SE Alpine lynx population. With the combined efforts of experts, conservationists, researchers, and hunters from five European countries, the project’s mission is clear – to prevent the lynx from disappearing forever. Beyond the translocations, the team is dedicated to monitoring the lynx, preventing illegal killings, and promoting the lynx’s importance among local communities. Active participation from hunters in Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Romania, and Slovakia echoes a historical collaboration from the 1970s when hunters and foresters first reintroduced the lynx to Slovenia’s forests. Together, we’re ensuring a future for the lynx and a thriving ecosystem across Europe.
A key synergy between the two projects is the involvement of the Slovenia Forest Service, which is a partner in both initiatives. Their extensive knowledge and experience gained through the LIFE Lynx project are being transferred to the LECA project, enhancing its effectiveness. This collaboration exemplifies the strong synergies that the EU fosters between related conservation projects, helping to maximise their impact and broaden their reach.
