Among the various priorities identified for the establishment of effective climate governance processes, the Municipality of Lignano Sabbiadoro decided to launch a participatory process focused on the re-design and regeneration of a city area called Porto Casoni, a little harbour overlooking the lagoon at risk of flooding due to sea-level rise and coastal erosion. Around 60 people—15 associations and private businesses operating in the area—took part in the consultation process. The urge for action is shared by both the local administration and the stakeholders, and this was an opportunity for local actors and users of the area to play an active role by highlighting needs and expressing their own ideas on how to improve the usability and safety of the area. Even though the process is still in progress, the approach adopted is instrumental in opening the space for dialogue, inclusiveness, and co-creation and improving the information flow between the local government and the community. This builds trust and a more favourable space for fostering the transformation to a climate-resilient Lignano Sabbiadoro.
