The Austrian pilot action was successfully launched with a stakeholder workshop on 3 June 2024 in the project region of South Styria. Around 30 people from municipalities, fire brigades, civil protection associations, district authorities, the Province of Styria and the project team came together to discuss the planned flood warning system.
On the one hand, the aim was to get to know the project in general and the idea of the flood warning system, and on the other hand, to gather local knowledge and wishes for future modelling. The main questions were about previous experiences and processes with floods in the region, the affected areas and their critical points, the possible implementation of such a flood warning system and the integration of further data from existing systems.
The high level of interest and commitment of the participants showed the importance of this issue for the region. The next meeting is planned for autumn this year, after the first concrete steps in the development of the flood warning system have been taken.
