H2CE Geographic Information System (GIS) platform
H2CE GIS platform provides a valuable decision support and strategic planning system for public authorities at the European, national, regional and local levels. When finalised, it shall support public decision-makers in making choices to plan and monitor investments in the field of production, distribution, and consumption of hydrogen as an energy source
It enables users to map and model regional H2 energy systems- to visualise the basic energy infrastructure (pipelines, power grid, etc.), possible hydrogen production, location of renewable energy sources, hydrogen transport viability assessment, etc. It collects data from public institutions, a network of operators and energy suppliers, stakeholders from industry, transport, mobility and other relevant key players. The tool itself will support the organization of different typologies of data, integrate space dimensions, enable queries and analysis and provide synthesis and resulting views.
The platform prototype is being developed and will be evaluated in two H2CE pilot areas: Styria and Veneto Region. Energy Agency Styria (EASt) has started the data collection for the platform and is finalizing the process while overcoming the complications of data sensitivity. Unioncamere del Veneto (UCV) has already finalized the data collection with more than 2500 records stored. Currently, it performs data assessment and analysis, including integration with statistical regional data, the transition from consumption data to H2 demand, geo-localisation of records and maps development.
The H2CE project partnership has been providing feedback on the ongoing process. As the GIS platform development moves to another stage of implementation, the H2CE partnership will become more invested in a co-creation approach to develop scalable solutions within and outside of the H2CE partnership.
