Together with the municipality of Ampfing, ONEO is planning to convert a currently shut-in hydrocarbon well into a geothermal well. Ampfing itself is located in the southern German molasse zone, which has proven to be a favourable area for geothermal energy production.
An initial feasibility study was carried out in 2021 and showed that the geothermal potential exceeds the demand. To take full advantage of the geothermal potential, a second study has been commissioned in 2023, which also includes the gathering of detailed information on the heat demand of industry and private households. If a high degree of the heat plant capacity can be utilized the study will commence with a detailed planning of the future heat network and plant. In addition, the results of various studies from the TRANSGEO project could be of great value for the further development of geothermal use in Ampfing.
