In the Period from the 25th to 27th June 2024 Medjimurje Energy Agency Ltd. participated on the annual General Assembly of FEDARENE, which took place in the City of Protaras, on Cyprus.
FEDARENE (European Federation of Agencies and Regions for Energy and Environment) is an association of regional and local energy agencies, the regions themselves and other public institutions (ministries, departments), whose goal is to initiate the energy transition and discuss energy and environmental issues at the European level. Today, FEDARENE has more than 80 members from 25 European countries and implements more than 50 projects in the field of energy transition and climate neutrality promotion.
Within the annual General Assembly, the representatives of Medjimurje Energy Agency Ltd. participated in the general part (related to reporting on project activities and results, as well as the review of budget and financial issues), workshop (on business models for accelerating energy transition), as well as lecture and panel discussion (on achieving climate neutrality).
A part of the meeting was devoted to a, so-called, Networking Café, where members of the association briefly presented the current projects they are implementing. For this purpose, the representatives of Medjimurje Energy Agency Ltd. introduced the other participants to the project TRANSGEO (Transforming Abandoned Wells for Geothermal Energy Production) and shared information about the project activities, partners, planned results, deliverables and set targets. The overall goal of the project is to transform existing abandoned oil and natural gas wells into potential sources of geothermal energy, using geothermal technologies and work processes. Some of the project activities include the creation of a technical-economic evaluation system for well reuse methods and a web tool for reuse assessment, feasibility assessment for the selected pilot areas, as well as the creation of a Transnational Strategy and Action Plan for the sustainable development of the regions of Central Europe (with an emphasis on the transition from fossil to geothermal energy).
