Zagreb, Croatia – The City of Zagreb is proud to announce a groundbreaking initiative aimed at advancing the hydrogen energy transition across Europe. The new H2 Competence Centre project will establish a comprehensive framework for setting up regional H2 competence centres, focusing on building the capacity of public and private stakeholders to effectively navigate and contribute to the hydrogen-based energy transition.

This innovative framework, developed by the City of Zagreb, is designed to address the specific needs and contexts of different regions. It will consider regional availability of resources, existing expertise, and the competencies required for successful hydrogen energy implementation. The blueprint outlines a standardized methodological approach for co-designing transnational profiles of H2 experts and creating targeted training pathways.

Key components of the initiative include:

  • Regional Context Analysis: Tailoring the framework to meet the unique conditions and needs of each region.
  • Methodological Approach: Establishing a consistent process for developing H2 expert profiles and training programs.
  • Training Pathways: Designing and testing educational programs for both public authorities and private sector stakeholders.

The H2 Competence Centre approach will be implemented and rigorously evaluated at the EU level. This evaluation will focus on the framework’s transferability and effectiveness, ensuring it can be adapted and adopted across various European regions.

This initiative represents a significant step forward in harmonizing efforts across Europe to promote hydrogen energy, enhance regional expertise, and support the continent’s transition to a sustainable energy future.
