In our project, we view education as a vital pillar of nature conservation and the harmonious coexistence of humans and wildlife. In collaboration with the Association of Students of Natural Sciences and the LIFE WILD WOLF project, we hosted an exciting 5-day training camp for students in the areas of Hrušice and Otlica, Slovenia, from August 5th to 9th, 2024. This immersive experience included two full days dedicated to the LECA project, where students delved into hands-on activities and real-world applications.

Working alongside local breeders, we highlighted the critical role of protective equipment and the installation of electric fences, providing students with firsthand insights from those actively involved in the LECA initiative. Our exploration didn’t stop there; we also taught students how to identify the signs of carnivores in the area, with a particular focus on the elusive wolf.

Participants learned about advanced monitoring techniques, including wolf trapping and telemetry, while discovering the importnat partnerships that the LECA project fosters with local hunters. This unique blend of theory and practical experience aimed to inspire the next generation of wildlife conservationists, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to protect wildlife. By fostering understanding and awareness, we aim to bridge the gap between communities and the natural world, empowering individuals to appreciate the delicate balance of our ecosystems. This educational approach not only enriches minds but also cultivates a sense of stewardship for the environment, ensuring a brighter future for both people and the animals with whom we share space.
