The „Komposztfutár” (“compost courier”) initiative supports a local civil movement in Szeged, Hungary, where volunteers collect organic wastes from people living in urban environment and the wastes are used to make good quality compost in small-scale facilities which is used locally in urban gardens or balconies of residents. The project is two years old this year, and those who have been following them since the beginning can see how much it has evolved since then. Now they want to continue to grow on a community basis. This workshop provides a space to brainstorm together not only on composting, but also on other methods to promote the efficient and local use of urban bio-waste in a broader sense.

The aim of the event is to showcase the elements and practices planned to be added to the „Komposztfutár” system to ensure that the green waste generated at households is processed and used locally, for the benefit of local communities, in the fastest and most environmentally friendly way possible. Participants will jointly discuss the different materials that can be collected separately (e.g. coffee grounds, eggshells), how they can be sorted, processed and recycled, and then the benefits and possible drawbacks.

The workshop will be accompanied by a follow-up questionnaire asking about the ideas and plans that emerged from the workshop and how they can be integrated into the households or communities.
