ThEGA is the state energy agency of the Free State of Thuringia. It is committed to greater climate protection and a successful energy transition in Thuringia. Since 2010, ThEGA has been informing and advising companies, municipalities, citizens and politicians, thus making a significant contribution to the success of Thuringia’s energy and climate policy goals. It brings together partners from science, business and politics for successful energy transition and climate protection projects. The ThEGA is market- and supplier-neutral. It employs around 40 people in total.

The State Energy Agency is the competence center for renewable energies, municipal climate protection, climate-friendly heat, energy and resource efficiency, sustainable mobility and a climate-neutral state administration. The heat division advises on topics such as municipal heat planning, heating networks and contracting.

ThEGA is a member of various regional and national networks and working groups, such as the “Green District Heating” platform, which aims to decarbonize heating networks in the coming years.

An important task is providing information and figures on the energy transition and making this knowledge available to municipalities, administrations, companies, the scientific community, and science. In recent years, numerous online services have been created, such as the solar calculator or the Thuringia Energy Atlas, which are being continuously developed. The heating requirements of all buildings in Thuringia are currently being determined. This data is of great importance for developing municipal heating plans and designing new heating networks.

The State Energy Agency sees itself as a door opener and pioneer for energy transition projects “made in Thuringia”. To this end, the ThEGA brings project partners together and provides its expertise for climate protection projects.

ThEGA advises companies, for example, on the efficient use of materials and energy and shows municipalities how they can set up energy management or modernize street lighting.

ThEGA is also committed to more citizen participation. In the first few years mainly focused on consultations and information brochures were the focus. Today, the solar and wind energy service centres wind energy for practical on-site advice for citizens and municipalities.
