The LOCALIENCE project has recently introduced two essential training materials aimed at empowering both local leaders and disaster management professionals to tackle climate-related challenges effectively. These resources were designed with specific audiences in mind and are available in multiple languages—Czech, English, German, Hungarian, Polish, and Slovenian—ensuring accessibility for communities across Central and Eastern Europe.
The first training material, focused on Nature-Based Solutions, is tailored for mayors, municipal leaders, and engaged citizens. This guide explores sustainable, nature-centered approaches to urban planning, green infrastructure, and community development. By harnessing natural processes, such as water retention landscapes and urban green spaces, these solutions help towns and cities manage extreme weather events like flooding, heat, and erosion more effectively.
The second resource, addressing Multi-Hazard Extreme Weather Events, is aimed at disaster management professionals. It offers a robust framework for responding to multiple, often simultaneous, hazards—such as severe storms, floods, and wildfires—that are becoming increasingly frequent with climate change. This material provides practical strategies and preparation techniques to enhance community resilience and ensure quick, coordinated response during crises.
To ensure the materials were effective and actionable, the LOCALIENCE project partners conducted practical training sessions where the materials were put to the test. These sessions allowed participants to gain experience, reinforce their skills, and provide feedback to refine the training materials further.
Both training materials are now available online, offering a valuable tool for communities and professionals to strengthen resilience and enhance preparedness in the face of evolving environmental challenges.
