On Thursday, August 29, 2024, Center Ponovne Uporabe (CPU), the Circular WEEEP partner, celebrated the grand opening of the first Repair Café facility in Slovenske Konjice. This center is constructed from abandoned shipping containers and embodies circular economy principles, serving as a model for sustainable innovation.
The Repair Café aims to reduce waste and encourage a culture of reuse and repair by offering a space where community members can learn practical skills and give new life to old items. The facility is especially designed to engage people of all ages, fostering knowledge-sharing and eco-friendly practices.
Dr. Marinka Vovk, Director of REUSE Center/CPU, Janja Ribič, Representative from the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy, Katja Sreš, President of Ecologists Without Borders and Mag. Aleš Brglez, Director of JKP d.o.o., Slovenske Konjice attended the opening ceremony and underlined the Repair Café’s alignment with the goals of the Circular WEEEP project, emphasizing its role in keeping materials in circulation, reducing landfill waste, and setting a standard for future repair initiatives.
The Repair Café represents a significant step forward in promoting a circular economy and sustainable EE waste management. This milestone marks the opening of a facility and the beginning of a movement towards a greener future.
