On December 16th at 14:00, the workshop titled “Living Lab Evaluation of the Bio-Based Product from ALPI” was successfully held at the main site of Savio.lab, a laboratory of Gruppo Saviola. The event brought together industry experts, researchers, and interested parties to explore and test ALPI’s latest innovative product—made from recycled wood waste.

The ALPI SpA collections, known for their wide range of woods with varied chromatic shades, textures, grains, and essences, set the stage for the event. The company’s remarkable ability to create woods with natural colors and grains was prominently featured, as well as its innovative approach to wood processing that lies between industry and craftsmanship.

The focal point of the workshop was the bio-based wood panel developed from waste materials generated during the ALPIlignum process. These waste scraps (CER 010305), mostly wood with varying sizes, colors, and a unique wood-to-glue ratio, are now being recycled into a new, sustainable wood panel product. The product was tested by a focus group of experts, who confirmed that the panels are not only suitable for direct use but can also be enhanced by covering the exposed faces with additional products, such as ALPIready, to increase their value.

During the testing, the product’s performance was compared to that of traditional wood-based panels (like OBS, MDF, PB). The results affirmed the panel’s strong usability and potential in the market, offering solid evidence of its practicality and sustainability. The event also explored the potential benefits of using bio-based glues to further reduce the carbon footprint of the product. Participants recognized the significance of incorporating such materials to increase the product’s eco-friendly credentials.

Overall, the workshop was a success, providing invaluable insights into the potential applications of ALPI’s new bio-based wood panel and its market interest. The feedback will play a crucial role in further developing and refining this sustainable innovation. ALPI also expressed interest in continuing to explore the use of bio-based adhesives to improve the environmental impact of their products in the future.

The workshop not only highlighted the excellent performance of the new bio-based panel but also emphasized the growing importance of sustainability in the wood industry, underscoring ALPI’s commitment to offering eco-friendly solutions.
