🌿 The first session of the meeting focused on the concept of #BIOCENTUM nodes and living labs established in four partner cities. Darko Ferčej from ISD (leader of WP1) presented the assumptions and objectives of BIOCENTUM, followed by a discussion on how to best organize work to increase acceptance of biodiversity in urban areas. The BIOCENTUM nodes are intended to be platforms for dialogue between residents, policymakers, scientists, NGOs, and businesses.
🌿 The second session was dedicated to developing implementation plans that will focus on the New Bauhaus aspects and increasing biodiversity in Érd, Pula, Kranj, and Wrocław. Representatives of the City Partners presented preliminary plans for pilot projects, followed by a workshop moderated by Małgorzata Świąder and Katarzyna Tokarczyk-Dorociak (LP) from UPWr . During the workshop, each participant had the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback to City Partners. Subsequently, using the HOW WOW POW NOW matrix, we discussed various possibilities and solutions.
🌿 The second day of the meeting began with a thematic session led by Claudia Romelli from Poliedra , leader of WP3. Together, we planned the workflow for developing policy frameworks to enhance urban biodiversity.
🌿 The next session was hybrid and it featured Dr. Kornelia Kwiecińska and Dr. Rengin Aslanoglu from UPWr, who presented their work on scientific studies preceding the development of the pilot project in Wrocław. They also discussed research on residents’ awareness regarding urban biodiversity and park lighting.
🌿 The meeting concluded with a study visit to community gardens in Budapest (a.o. Auróra Klímakert).
🌿 We are deeply grateful to our colleagues from BURST for their impeccable organization of the meeting in the beautiful, festive atmosphere of Budapest.
🌿 Now, we face another six months of work. The next meeting is scheduled for late May or early June 2025 in Kranj, Slovenia.
