TomaPaint is excited to announce the Living Lab evaluation of a new bio-based lacquer for food metal packaging. The internal surface of the metal cans will be coated and protected with a bio-based lacquer as a substitute of the standard oil-based lacquer with significantly advantages for the consumer safety and the environment. The main component of the bio-based lacquer is the bio-resin extracted in TomaPaint process from tomato industrial by-products, mainly peels. The metal cans used show chemical-physical properties comparable with standard metal cans. The bio-based lacquer complies with the European Regulation on materials and articles intended to come into contact with food. The metal cans could be filled with several type of foodstuffs, vegetables, meat and fish.
