Implementation of the pilot action at BME for mainstreaming circular lifestyles for various stakeholders

Various activities have been implemented in the framework of the pilot action “Co-creation for more circular cities at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics” covering a workshop at the European Researchers’ Night 2024 for targeting university students, relatives and citizens, presentation of the pilot activity at the 22nd Annual Meeting of Hungarian Regional Science Association for disseminating the importance of challenge-based learning in sustainability transitions and engage academia to activate users for circular lifestyles, a Hungarian and an English workshop during the Intensive Seminar Programme at BME Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences for activation of users for circular lifestyles. On 8 November 2024, the BME Department of Environmental Economics and Sustainability celebrated its 35th anniversary in a day-long event. The objectives of the event included to review the history, results, current activities and opportunities of the Department, including trainings, talent management, national and international research projects. The guests included present and former students, PhD graduates of the Department, former colleagues and professional partners, including the “board” of local stakeholders and partners of the NiCE pilot project. Dr. Mariann Szabó, assistant professor, deputy head of department, scientific coordinator of the NiCE project gave a presentation titled “Circular economy lifestyles – launch of the BME Pilot project”. The presentation highlighted the purpose of the project, the framework of the partnership and the various activities that serve the strengthening of consumption-related areas of the circular economy in urban spaces, including the Department’s Pilot action. The last phase of the BME pilot action is the launch of a university course – Sustainable Business Model Design – in the spring semester of 2024/2025, where student groups can work together with different enterprises. On 10 January 2025, a meeting has been organized for the Board to review the upcoming activities and to discuss the implementation timeline of the Sustainable Business Model Design course. The members will actively contribute to the pilot project tandem peer review, self-evaluation and communication activities.
