The Slovenian Innovation Hub ORbITaLA, established within the framework of the Food4CE project by the Regional Development Agency for Podravje – Maribor, successfully organized the first co-creation workshop, which explored key opportunities for optimizing transport costs, promoting the use of electric vehicles, and efficiently integrating outsourcing into logistics processes.

The workshop focused on practical examples to show how to accurately calculate costs for different vehicle types, distances and shipment sizes. Special attention was dedicated to the benefits of electric vehicles, presenting guidelines for selecting and purchasing vehicles tailored to the needs of local food providers. Additionally, detailed cost calculations for the purchase, maintenance and use of electric vehicles were presented to support participants in making informed decisions about transitioning to sustainable solutions.

During the webinar, participants were given a practical demonstration of the logistics optimisation process – from importing data and preparing an optimised route to deciding whether to involve external carriers. Participants gained concrete knowledge applicable to their own business processes in order to improve efficiency and reduce costs, while also learning about the key factors for successful parcel distribution.

In their presentations, speakers highlighted:

Maršenka Marksel, UM FGPA: “We help local food producers identify the key factors that influence transport costs and provide costing tools. Key solutions include selecting the right vehicle, bundling deliveries, digitising orders and working with logistics operators who can deliver orders more efficiently and cost-effectively”.

Martin Pečar, OmniOpti d. o. o.: “For food service providers and distribution companies, optimising transport routes is the key to higher efficiency and lower costs. With our app, you can easily and quickly improve your distribution organisation, typically saving between 10-30% of costs compared to manual route planning. In addition to financial savings, smart optimisation also helps you reduce your environmental impact by cutting emissions and fuel consumption”.

Klemen Hartman, Krapše, d. o. o.: “For 22 years, we have been building a tradition of reliability and quality that has become our greatest guarantee for top-quality food transport. Our many years of experience allow us to take the worry out of food delivery for our partners – always on time, to the right address and in compliance with all applicable legislation. Matic Kern, GLS Slovenija: “We are specialists in parcel distribution up to 40 kg and have been present on the Slovenian market since 2000. We are known for our fast and reliable delivery and high-quality service. We are part of the GLS Group, which is present throughout Europe, enabling our customers to do business with foreign markets as well. Andrej Cipot, Murska Transport d. o. o.: Company Murska Transport has been providing comprehensive transport and logistics solutions for more than 30 years. We are particularly proud of our cooperation with local farmers and food producers, where we use modern vehicles with dual temperature regimes (+5°C / -20°C) to deliver temperature-sensitive food products quickly and reliably.  High storage and transport standards ensure the quality and safety of goods throughout the process.
