Case Studies in Social Innovation: Lessons from Split

As one of the partners in the TASK4ISI project, we in Split have the opportunity not only to learn from international practices in inclusive entrepreneurship, but also to reflect on the impact and potential of social innovation in our own local context.

Social innovation is often born out of necessity — from gaps in systems, from social exclusion, and from the desire of communities to create meaningful, lasting change. Across Europe, and especially in regions like ours, we’ve seen how community-driven solutions can improve quality of life, create opportunities, and make local economies more inclusive and sustainable.

Why Case Studies Matter

In the context of the TASK4ISI project, case studies are more than just good stories. They’re a way to identify what works, share knowledge across regions, and inspire action. Case studies help us understand the real-life conditions in which social innovation takes place, the challenges faced, the strategies used, and the outcomes achieved.

They also help highlight regional specificities, showing that there is no one-size-fits-all model. What works in a rural part of Dalmatia might look very different from what succeeds in an urban hub like Kraków or Leipzig. This is why sharing local experiences matters, and why we value our role in this project.

The Local Perspective – Split in Focus

As a regional partner, CEDRA Split contributes to the project by supporting local stakeholders involved in social innovation and inclusive entrepreneurship. Through its network and experience in sustainable development, CEDRA helps connect people, ideas, and resources to strengthen local innovation ecosystems.

By engaging with real-life examples from our region and beyond, we’re working together with other partners in TASK4ISI to turn local knowledge into shared learning across Central Europe.

Looking Ahead with TASK4ISI

As we continue our work in the project, we believe that local stories and examples can inspire and inform wider strategies. Social innovation often starts small, with a local problem and a creative, inclusive approach to solving it.

By documenting and sharing these experiences through the lens of case studies, we not only build knowledge but also create a foundation for future collaboration. Our aim is to make sure that voices from Split, and similar regions, are part of shaping how Europe thinks about inclusive and sustainable development.
