Governance models in FAs come in many different shapes and forms – from informal, soft coordination mechanisms to fully institutionalized “metropolitan cities” with metropolitan authorities composed of representatives elected by popular vote, metropolitan institutions and dedicated budgets (tax share or own metropolitan tax). These institutional arrangements need to be adequately calibrated to reflect local context, national legal frameworks, scope of cooperation.
During this seminar, we will introduce our project and its important and interesting outcomes of our project. They include:
- Common Metropolitan Vision – policy advocacy document representing position of metropolitan areas involved in the project, it aims to be shared towards European and national level.
- Best practices and tools for strengthening metropolitan cooperation and governance – main outcomes of our analytical work summarising best practices of metropolitan areas and their governance structures. We will also present best practices and tools which are part of further work of the project and were reflected as the most desired by partners for potential transferability in their metropolitan area.
The event is developed as part of the “Functional Areas in the EU” project, financed by the European Commission and implemented with the assistance of the World Bank.
