microTEC Südwest at the EASS Conference 2024: SMART CIRCUIT and the Circular Innovation Academy in the Spotlight

Location: Freiburg, Germany
Date: 19.03.2024 - 20.03.2024

The 12th Conference on Energy Autonomous Sensor Systems (EASS) took place from March 19–20, 2024, in Freiburg, Germany, bringing together researchers, innovators, and industry leaders to discuss the future of self-powered sensor technologies. A key contributor at the event was microTEC Südwest e.V., represented by Juan I. Berardi.

Berardi presented the SMART CIRCUIT project—an innovative initiative funded by the Interreg program. SMART CIRCUIT is focused on integrating energy-autonomous technologies into sensor systems with applications in the circular economy. The project’s emphasis on sustainability and resource efficiency aligns perfectly with the core goals of the EASS conference.

The EASS 2024 agenda featured a rich mix of lectures, poster pitches, and dynamic discussions. Topics ranged from capacitive high-temperature pressure sensors to energy-autonomous sensor nodes designed for smart buildings. Each contribution added a piece to the larger puzzle of developing robust, sustainable sensor networks.

microTEC Südwest made a strong impression during the poster pitch session, where the SMART CIRCUIT project sparked considerable interest and lively dialogue. Attendees were particularly intrigued by the project’s new Circular Innovation Academy (CIA)—an educational and collaborative platform aiming to expand the toolkit of solutions in the energy-autonomous systems sector.

The conference concluded with a hands-on workshop titled “The Climate Puzzle”, which offered participants a chance to explore climate system structures and dependencies based on IPCC reports. The workshop encouraged collective thinking toward a more sustainable and climate-conscious future.

The presence of microTEC Südwest at EASS 2024 demonstrated not only technological leadership but also a commitment to innovation, education, and sustainability in sensor system development.
