Hey there! We have some exciting news to share with you. The partners of the ICTr-CE project had met in a charming little town called Fertőd, located in Hungary. This place is famous for its picturesque cycling paths and delicious wine. The lead partner, Westpannon, organized an exciting study trip for all the participants. They got to meet local tourism providers, discuss challenges related to the SME innovativeness and digitalisation, and take a ride on the EuroVelo 13, also known as the Iron Curtain Trail, which is the central part of the project.

EuroVelo 13 – The Iron Curtain Trail

Do you know that until the early 1990s, the Iron Curtain divided Europe into East and West? But now, a 10,400-kilometre-long cycle path called EuroVelo 13 runs along the former border strip. This path goes through 20 countries, including 14 EU member states, and it’s a breathtaking sight to see. Nature has been able to flourish along the former border strip, and the “Green Belt” is now the longest ecological network in the world.

Things to do when in Győr-Moson-Sopron county

The county boasts numerous bike-friendly tourist destinations with a wide range of cycling paths to suit various levels of difficulty, length, and altitude. Each path serves as an opportunity to explore distinct natural habitats and their inhabitants, making it ideal for bird watching and other outdoor activities.

On the way, you can find many small and family-owned tourism providers and explore the history, customs and traditions of the people living there. We had an opportunity to visit the rural traditional houses in Fertőszéplak, the Mariska néni háza tourism information point, Tornácos bike-friendly service provider and local craft beer company Szentkői.
