EuroVelo 8 – Mediterranean route
EuroVelo 8, also known as the Mediterranean Route, is a spectacular cycling journey that spans across several countries, providing cyclists with the opportunity to experience the diverse landscapes and cultures of the Mediterranean region. Starting in Turkey, the route takes cyclists through Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, France, and finally to Spain and Gibraltar. This route showcases the enchanting beauty of the Mediterranean coast, offering breathtaking views of crystal-clear waters, charming coastal villages, and historic landmarks.
During our visit in Portorož, we had a chance to cycle with e-bikes that we rented from the local provider and cycle the Parenzana, trial that is part EuroVelo 8, and visit the Sečovlje Saltpans, Fonda fish farm and local producer of olive oil Gramona olive farm.
Parenzana
Did you know that Parenzana is a former railway path that led from Trieste to Poreč in the years from 1902 until 1935? Due to its rich history between Slovenia and Italy, it is also known as a Trail of Health and Friendship. What a great name for a cycling path!
