7th Climate Dialogue in Eisenstadt

Research Burgenland with input on HERCULES-CE and Renewable Energy Communities at Austria’s premier climate event

On October 18, 2024, the 7th Climate Dialogue took place in Eisenstadt, the capital of Burgenland, highlighting Austria’s energy future. Organized by the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation, and Technology, the Austrian-wide series of events aims to form a diverse climate network and serve as a platform to discuss energy policy and practical applications. It also contributes to implementing the EU Governance Regulation at the regional level. This year, Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler and Burgenland’s Governor Hans Peter Doskozil joined the dialogue to discuss the local and regional energy transitions experts, policymakers, administrators, businesses, active climate communicators, and the public.

Part of the event was the so called “Climate Fair”, where more than 30 companies, organizations, and associations shared their approaches to achieving a sustainable energy future. The project partner Research Burgenland played a prominent role by delivering a keynote speech, presenting the HERCULES-CE project at the fair, and organizing a workshop titled “Energy Transition for Everybody”. The workshop focused on challenges such as grid utility, real-time data, flexibility, and the hardware and software needed for the energy transition.

Austria relies on Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) as a success factor for the rapid and socially inclusive expansion of renewable energy. With 2,400 RECs established to date, they are vital to Austria’s goal of achieving 100% energy supply from renewable sources by the year 2030.
