Asha is thrilled to join CEEweb this summer as an intern contributing to the HUMANITA project. Currently pursuing her Biology Masters within the Biodiversity & Sustainability Research Group at the University of Oxford, Asha’s research focuses on the social impacts of protected areas on local communities. Her fieldwork around Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda, involved interviewing households to identify factors influencing attitudes towards conservation, aligning closely with CEEweb’s mission for biodiversity protection through sustainable development.

Asha’s keen interest in the HUMANITA project is driven by its focus on the intersection of conservation and human wellbeing. With the expansion of protected areas under the ’30 by 30′ initiative, she recognises the urgent need for improved management practices. While ecotourism contributes significantly to conservation funding and provides many with the opportunity to enjoy nature, mismanagement of protected areas can worsen ecological and social issues. Projects such as HUMANITA are vital for ensuring the long-term effectiveness of protected areas.

Born and raised in London, Asha is excited about living and working in Budapest. Outside of her academic pursuits, she enjoys ceramics and running.

CEEweb for Biodiversity has more than 5 years fruitful cooperation with Oxford University within the Summer Internship Program. Many excellent applicants apply for this unique opportunity to work with us and gain essential skills and knowledge within the sector.

Based on our interns’ feedback CEEweb received a GOLD STANDARD INTERNSHIP HOST award last year, which is a great achievement for the organisation.
