Carbon Farming CE recognized by the European Commission!

Date: 08.08.2024

We are excited to share that our Carbon Farming CE project, part of the Interreg Central Europe program, has been recognized by the European Commission as an important initiative for carbon farming uptake in Europe!

On 10 April 2024, the European Parliament adopted the provisional agreement on the Carbon removals and carbon farming (CRCF) regulation. This new regulation creates the first EU-wide voluntary framework for certifying carbon removals, carbon farming, and carbon storage in products across Europe. By setting EU quality criteria and defining monitoring and reporting processes, the CRCF Regulation will facilitate investment in innovative carbon removal technologies and sustainable carbon farming solutions, while addressing greenwashing.

Our Contribution:

Our project, Carbon Farming CE, is actively involved in promoting and expanding carbon farming pilots across central Europe. We are collaborating with 11 partners across 9 countries to develop guides, business models, and monitoring systems, test different carbon farming techniques and form strategies for carbon farming uptake in the area that will enhance carbon sequestration and sustainable farming practices.

EU support & funding:

  • Common Agricultural Policy (CAP): Aims to mitigate climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing carbon sequestration.
  • Horizon Europe: Supports research and innovation in carbon farming, particularly via Cluster 6 and the EU Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe”.
  • LIFE Programme: Supports projects like LIFE Carbon Farming, encouraging farmers to reduce their carbon footprint and increase carbon storage.
  • European Regional Development Fund: Supports our €1.8 million Carbon Farming CE initiative (2023-2026), promoting carbon farming pilots across central Europe.

We are proud to be at the forefront of sustainable agriculture and carbon farming innovation.
