On August 8, 2024, a Climate Walk was organized by the Environment and Climate Research Hub (ech) at the University of Vienna. The purpose of the Climate Walk was to raise awareness about the urban heat island effect and its impact on different social groups in Vienna. The walk took participants from Karlsplatz to the 6th district. Key contributors included Yvonne Franz -GetCoheSive researcher-, who shed light on the experiences of marginalized groups in public spaces and professor Kerstin Krellenberg from UNIVIE, who added input on sustainable urban transformation. They were joined by Silvio Heinze, Markus Lerchbaum, and Sophie Berghäuser, whose data collection and heat impacts. Participants uncovered surprising insights into how heat exposure disproportionately affects vulnerable communities and emphasised inequalities. This initiative highlighted the critical need for accessible public spaces to enhance living quality for everyone., including homeless people. The event not only sparked important conversations but also deepened understanding of the challenges faced by those most affected by climate change. we invite you to visit this short video from the walk
