As part of the BIOECO-UP project, the second workshop within Activity A2.3, titled “Transnational Testing of Innovative Bio-Based Products Using a Living Lab Approach” took place on December 12, 2024, at the Technology Center in Prague. The workshop was held as part of the 2nd National Bioeconomy Congress, emphasizing the event’s role in advancing sustainable innovation within the bioeconomy.
The workshop focused on four innovative bio-based products selected for the Czech Living Lab, highlighting their potential contributions to sustainability and the circular bioeconomy:
-
Algasol: A bio-based product designed to support agricultural sustainability by enhancing crop resilience and optimizing resource use.
-
microfertile®: A bio-based agricultural solution from Four Leaves Agro, specifically designed to improve soil fertility and plant growth efficiency. By enriching the soil with essential nutrients and boosting microbial activity, it promotes higher biomass production and supports sustainable farming practices.
-
Footwear and textiles: Sustainable products containing a high proportion of hemp biomass, designed to offer eco-friendly alternatives for fashion and everyday use.
-
Hemp-based building insulation: An innovative material for sustainable construction, providing a natural solution for reducing energy consumption while maintaining high performance.
More than 50 participants, including representatives from SMEs, research institutes, universities, and the general public, attended the event. They had the opportunity to learn about these products through detailed presentations, explore physical samples, and engage in discussions with the presenting companies. Participants also provided valuable feedback on the products, particularly on the functionality and market appeal of the footwear and textile items.
The success of the workshop was reflected in the high level of interest and engagement from attendees. Product samples were distributed to participants, feedback questionnaires were enthusiastically completed, and leaflets detailing the bio-based products were provided to all.
This workshop, part of BIOECO-UP’s Living Lab initiative, demonstrated the importance of direct user involvement in refining and enhancing bio-based innovations. By fostering collaboration between researchers, manufacturers, and end-users, the project is paving the way for sustainable solutions in agriculture, construction, and everyday life.
