Going Above and Beyond for Climate Resilience

Date: 03.04.2025
Welcome to Year Three of MISSION CE CLIMATE!

As we step into the third year of the MISSION CE CLIMATE journey, we’re turning collaborative vision into real impact. While we’re excited about what’s ahead, it’s also a perfect moment to reflect on how far we’ve come.

Whether you’re discovering our work for the first time, deepening your understanding, or keeping up with our latest updates — this is the place to be.

Why It Matters

Extreme weather is no longer a distant threat. From floods and droughts to heatwaves and their growing health risks, communities across Central Europe are feeling the pressure of climate change.

MISSION CE CLIMATE was created to help regions respond — not with isolated actions, but through coordinated, cross-sectoral solutions.

At the heart of our approach is the Quintuple Helix Model that joins:
🔹 Governance
🔹 Academia
🔹 Industry
🔹 Civil Society
🔹 The Natural Environment

in the effort to provide an all-round response to climate change in communities accross Central Europe.

This framework guides everything we do, ensuring that local and regional authorities take the lead, supported by the full ecosystem.

Our impact so far

In just two years, we’ve supported communities in 6 countries to launch Community Climate Resilience Missions — local networks where diverse stakeholders unite to take climate action.

These Missions are based in:
📍 Pforzheim
📍 Košice
📍 Dornbirn
📍 Maribor
📍 Lignano di Sabbiadoro
📍 The Island of Brač

Each Mission is built through a Memorandum of Understanding, forming open, evolving partnerships. So far, 28 organizations have joined forces to develop action plans, conduct risk assessments, and begin pilot projects.

Pilots in Action

As part of the Missions, six pilot projects are underway, each tackling a unique climate challenge:

1. Data-Driven Decision-Making
Cities: Pforzheim, Košice, Dornbirn

2. Nature-Based Solutions in Urban Planning
City: Maribor

3. Reducing Drinking Water Losses through improved Monitoring
Island of Brač

4. Inclusive governance
City: Lignano di Sabbiadoro

These pilot projects are ongoing, and progress is regularly shared on our website and LinkedIn. 2025 is all about implementation and results.

Joint Strategy for Climate Resilience

Beyond the local level, we’ve co-created a Joint Transnational Strategy for building climate-resilient communities across Central Europe.
Through collaborative workshops and partner input, the strategy outlines clear objectives and measures to guide long-term resilience efforts.

Citizens at the core

From participating in green city planning to using sensors from our citizen toolkits, locals play a key role. Whether it’s tracking air quality near schools or monitoring noise pollution, citizen science is a big part of our activities.

We’re also building awareness through educational resources — like the Citizen’s Guide to Climate Resilience.

The path forward

Our focus for the third year:
✔ Complete the six pilot projects
✔ Design a concept for aOne-Stop Shop” for urban environmental data
✔ Promote smarter, data-driven decision-making for all

Continue to follow our progress here and on our LinkedIn.

Together, we’re building a more resilient future — one community at a time. 🌱
