Trieste, April 2025 – Cities across Central Europe are working together to make everyday commuting more sustainable, efficient, and people-focused—and the GreenPATH project is helping lead the way. On 15–16 April, partners from six European countries met in Trieste, Italy, for the third Steering Committee meeting of the GreenPATH project, co-funded by the Interreg Central Europe Programme. Over two days of discussion and collaboration, project partners reviewed the progress made so far, shared local experiences, and aligned on upcoming activities to improve how people move around in and around cities. From encouraging walking, cycling, and shared transport to exploring smarter ways to plan trips and collect mobility data, GreenPATH is focused on making commuting greener and easier for everyone—whether you’re a student heading to class, a worker commuting to the office, or someone travelling across borders for your daily routine. During the meeting, participants also discussed several pilot initiatives and studies underway in participating regions. These include awareness campaigns, training for local decision-makers, and real-life tests of sustainable mobility solutions. One highlight was the presentation of a study focused on the Trieste Functional Urban Area, which looks at cross-border commuting between Italy and Slovenia. Using mobile phone data, this analysis helps us understand how people move across the border—and how we can better support their journeys with public transport and smart planning. As of today, the project is well on track, with strong collaboration between partners and exciting results beginning to take shape. The work done so far shows the power of working together across borders to solve shared challenges—like reducing car traffic, lowering emissions, and improving access to greener mobility options. GreenPATH will continue to build on this momentum, with the next project meeting scheduled for October 2025 in Osijek, Croatia. Stay tuned as we continue building a more connected, sustainable future—one smart trip at a time.
