An innovative initiative in Central Europe aims to promote the development of greener and more sustainable urban spaces through the Visual Mapping Platform (GVMP), created as part of the Interreg GreenScape CE project. GVMP is an interactive, map-based platform designed to help cities climate-proof their environments by supporting renaturing efforts and enhancing the planning of green and blue infrastructure, such as parks, greenways, rivers, and lakes. The platform offers three powerful tools: the Accessibility Tool, which analyzes how easily citizens can access green spaces; the Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) Tool, which evaluates sustainable infrastructure solutions; and the Connectivity Tool, which assesses the connectivity of green spaces. These tools enable cities to plan and implement effective green infrastructure, boosting urban resilience to climate change. GVMP’s visual maps and simulation tools make planning more transparent, fostering community engagement and enabling informed decision-making. Cities across Central Europe, including Zagreb, Ptuj, Warsaw, Milan, and Szeged, are set to utilize GVMP to address various climate challenges, such as reducing pollution and combating heatwaves. Developed under the leadership of the Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, GVMP is a collaborative effort with partners across the region, contributing to the creation of greener, healthier, and more resilient urban environments.
