The “Empowering H2-ready Regions in Central Europe” (H2CE) project, launched in 2023, aims to accelerate the development of hydrogen infrastructure in Central European regions and integrate it into local and regional energy planning. Part of the EU’s Interreg Central Europe 2021-2027 program and co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the project involves nine regions across seven countries. Coordinated by the Berlin-Brandenburg Spatial Planning Department, it seeks to develop tools for public authorities and create a network of H2-ready regions, promoting the clean energy transition through innovative technologies. The project has three phases: planning hydrogen infrastructure, supporting regional transitions, and building a Central European hydrogen network. Key outcomes include GIS platforms in Veneto and Styria and establishing hydrogen competence centres in Austria, Croatia, and Germany.
