Amid growing efforts to combat climate change, more entities are transitioning to green energy sources. In Central Europe, the H2CE project is tackling this challenge by boosting the readiness of regions to integrate hydrogen technology. The project’s primary goal is to accelerate the development of hydrogen infrastructure and optimize the use of available funding.

The Marshal’s Office of the Pomorskie Voivodeship is an active partner in H2CE, aligning with one of the main objectives of its Regional Development Strategy: improving energy efficiency and expanding renewable energy sources. Green hydrogen holds great promise but currently represents less than 2% of Europe’s energy consumption. By enhancing public authorities’ ability to plan and implement hydrogen solutions, H2CE is positioned to drive sustainable growth and energy transition across Central Europe.

This collaboration leverages the expertise of project partners to address the complexities of adopting hydrogen-based energy systems. As part of this initiative, regional pilots are being conducted in Austria and Italy to create decision-support tools for local authorities, while the Czech Republic is testing a voucher system to evaluate hydrogen projects. The ultimate aim is to build a transnational network that supports large-scale hydrogen initiatives across seven participating countries.

The project, co-funded by the EU’s Interreg Central Europe program, will run for three years, concluding in March 2026.
