The Annual BIOEAST Conference once again underscored the importance of regional cooperation in research and innovation across Central and Eastern Europe. The open conference focused on presenting the shared vision of BIOEAST and the European Union, alongside updating the existing research and innovation agenda in response to the political, policy, and economic changes that have taken place since the original version in early 2023.

Special attention was given to the education working group, where the BIOECO-UP brochure was presented and distributed. Titled “Eco-Friendly Living Starts at Home – Learn what bioeconomy is and how to create simple and sustainable Bio-based Products”, the brochure proved to be a great success among participants thanks to its informative yet accessible and creative approach. It effectively demonstrated how bioeconomy concepts can be communicated in a relatable and practical way for everyday life.

The working group expressed strong support for the BIOECO-UP initiative’s goal to extend bioeconomy-related knowledge transfer beyond higher education. Members emphasized the importance of engaging not only young learners but also the wider public in the topic. The brochure was highlighted as an excellent example of how this can be achieved through clear, practical education tools.

On April 10, closed Education TWG sessions were held to collect targeted input for the renewed BIOEAST research and innovation agenda. The focus was on identifying topics that align with EU development goals while also reflecting the specific strengths and opportunities of the BIOEAST countries. These proposals could potentially be integrated into future Horizon Europe work programmes even before the new agenda is officially published.
