Bologna On Demand
In the case of the Metropolitan City of Bologna, GO-Mobility has been chosen as project partner to provide technical and methodological support to the mobility agency of the Municipality of Bologna and its metropolitan area – SRM Reti e Mobilità – in different phases, including:
- Mapping and territorial analysis : identifying areas with low demand through the integration of different data sources, including telephone big data, FCD and CATI/CAWI surveys and through data fusion processes , thus identifying with a data driven approach the most suitable areas for the introduction of DRT;
- Demand modelling : using advanced methods for the collection and analysis of big data (FCD, telephone) aimed at estimating the potential demand for mobility and therefore the O/D matrices useful for estimating the potential use of DRT services;
- Stakeholder participation : supporting SRM in involving local actors through a Living Lab, a collaborative and informative space that includes public bodies, transport operators, businesses, experts and trade associations through workshops and meetings to activate dialogue between the subjects and promote participatory planning;
- Development of guidelines and standards : converging the work done for the case study into scalable guidelines for the integration of DRT services with public transport, outlining the necessary terms for data exchange protocols and service contractualization, with the aim of facilitating governance and concrete operations.
In this process, the importance of data collection, analysis and sharing emerges for the success of the project. Good management of big data , integration technologies and analysis tools allow to precisely identify the areas most suitable for DRT and the most effective mobility solutions for each territory, providing a tailor-made service capable of adapting to the peculiarities of different populations.
The DREAM_PACE project does not only deal with data and technologies , but also places project participants in front of one of the most complex issues of DRT services: the stable integration of this type of transport in service contracts . This aspect forces a broader reflection on the issue of national and regional funds to be allocated to public transport and the calculation mechanisms associated with them.
