Innovating freight deliveries – Green Logistics Expo

By: GRETA

The event included two roundtables and the presentation of the study on Cargo Hitching conducted by CEI-ES and its external experts.

While the first roundtable was meant to showcase GRETA’s pilot action in 5 selected cities (Budapest, Maribor, Poznan, Reggio Emilia and Verona) and to highlight possible synergies with other EU projects (as the CEI-led SUSTANCE project), the second served as a platform for logistics experts and policy makers to share their experiences and views regarding the challenging innovative model of cargo hitching (based on the utilization of the unused capacity of public transport to serve the increasing demand for freight deliveries). The speakers, while posing particular emphasis to the ongoing initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable transport, also stated that the challenges faced in each region and city are different for its size, location and background. Although the value of Cargo Hitching was clearly stated, participants also highlighted possible challenges mainly related to regulatory aspects.

GRETA’s event in Padua is the first of a series of three events that will focus on innovation in Freight deliveries in urban areas. The event served as a valuable opportunity for fostering collaboration and exploring possible synergies with other projects and other stakeholders.
