Piemonte has more than one thousand municipalities and eight main cities. The majority of the population lives in the Turin area, where the majority of industrial activity is based. Moreover, other industrial areas in urban plain areas are near Biella (textile industries), Ivrea (mechanics), Novara, and Alessandria (logistics).
Lowland Piemonte is a fertile agricultural region that produces cereals, including rice, maize, grapes for wine-making, fruit, and milk. More than half of its 700Â square kilometres of vineyards are registered with DOC and DOCG designations.
Since the 2000s, tourism has become increasingly important in the region, especially regarding landscape, artistic and cultural value, food and wine tourism, and skiing and alpine tourism. Concerning the administrative aspect of partner PP8, the Regional Health Directorate (RHD) is responsible for coordinating the regional healthcare system and proposing an innovative model of care. It oversees system organization, funding and management control, disseminating guidelines at the regional level, and supporting project output.
The Prevention, Public Health, Veterinary and Food Safety Sector deals with the following subjects:
– health and safety protection in open and confined environments, including risks arising from the use of chemical substances, mixtures and articles (REACH-CLP);
– emergencies from natural or provoked phenomena (climatic, nuclear, biological, chemical, radiological);
– preparation and coordination of the Regional Prevention Plan (PRP).
Within the framework of the PRP, Piemonte Region manages and coordinates the actions envisaged by the “Environment, Climate and Health” programme also through a health advocacy role in the policies of other “health in all policies” sectors such as environment, transport, construction, urban planning, agriculture, education. This role makes it possible to intercept and combine public health and environmental protection objectives, promoting the strengthening of skills and awareness of all community actors on the sustainability goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Participating in the Superbe project will contribute to the Regional Strategy to Sustainable Development, which has been adopted in Piemonte Region since 2022 in conjunction with the national strategy and 2030 Agenda. It defines guidelines and objectives for the transition towards sustainable development and works together with the Turin Metropolitan Agenda, universities, and main regional stakeholders.
Moreover, in this context, the first extract of the Regional Strategy to Climate Change was recently approved, as well as the Plan of Climate Resilience approved by the Municipality of Turin, an associated partner in the Superbe project that is very involved and active in this field.
