Deliverable D.1.1.1: Comprehensive Data Report

Our Comprehensive Data Report provides an in-depth analysis of public transport networks within the project area. This report identifies potential synergies and conflicts between public transport and spatial planning, offering actionable recommendations for improvement. By comparing best practices from other cities and countries, we aim to foster innovative solutions tailored to our unique challenges.

Key Findings:

The Comprehensive Data Report reveals diverse spatial-demographic characteristics across the six pilot cities, including varying population trends, age structures, and densities. This analysis highlights unique local challenges and opportunities, such as Modena and Grosuplje maintaining population growth, while other cities face declines. The report also delves into the public transport history and fleet composition, noting that four cities have had public transport services for over a century. Recent innovations, such as demand-responsive transport (DRT) and electric buses, are becoming more prevalent, with Paks already operating a fully electrified bus fleet.

Operational statistics indicate a wide range of statuses among the cities. For instance, Pécs has the most extensive network with 85 lines, while Český Krumlov has the least. The demand analysis shows ridership trends influenced by seasonal factors and the COVID-19 pandemic, with Pécs exhibiting the highest annual ridership. Financial analysis underscores the importance of government subsidies, as farebox revenue alone is insufficient to cover operational costs.

The report also identifies best practices from successful European public transport projects, emphasizing the critical role of stakeholder involvement and effective communication strategies. These insights are invaluable for the OPTI-UP project partners as they develop and implement pilot projects, ensuring they are tailored to local needs and conditions.

Deliverable D.1.1.2: Unified Database

The Unified Database serves as a centralized repository for data related to various operational aspects of public transport. This standardized resource consolidates key indicators and metrics, facilitating easier data comparison and analysis across different regions.

Next Steps:

Following the completion of these deliverables, the next phase involves detailed local analyses and the development of public transport improvement plans. We will also enhance the database with new data and findings, ensuring it remains a valuable resource throughout the project.

We invite urban planners, public transport operators, and policymakers to explore these deliverables and leverage the insights to enhance their public transport systems. Explore the full report and database, and join us in our journey towards more efficient and sustainable public transport networks.

The completion of D.1.1.1 and D.1.1.2 marks a significant milestone for the OPTI-UP project. By providing comprehensive data analysis and a unified database, we are paving the way for innovative public transport solutions in Central Europe. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to drive progress and share our findings.
