In mid-March, project partners from Hungary visited the Slovenian Environment Agency, Ljubljana Fire Brigade, and Municipality of Ljubljana to gain insights into pilot activities for a responsive urban warning system against extreme weather threats. This system will rely on feedback and interaction between all relevant national institutions, the public, and social media platforms.
The Ljubljana Fire Brigade organized the first part of the visit, showcasing the effectiveness of their notification and response system and the operations of their internal dispatch center. At the Emergency Management Department of the Municipality of Ljubljana, partners learned about key aspects of the 2023-2030 Protection Program for natural and other disasters in the city.
At the Slovenian Environment Agency, visitors attended a workshop on extreme weather communication and received an overview of the four key building blocks of the Slovenian pilot project. After presenting the Hungarian pilot activities, participants wrapped up the visit with discussions on ongoing tasks and future steps.
A field workshop was also part of the visit, including a trip to the Volunteer Fire Department, a presentation of automatic notification system locations for the pilot action, and an overview of critical flood-prone areas and implemented anti-flood measures in Ljubljana.
Many thanks to our Slovenian partners for hosting informative and engaging peer-review days in Ljubljana!
