Large carnivores – the grey wolf, the brown bear and the Eurasian lynx – have returned to their native habitats across Europe, including Hungary. The presence of these animals can create conflict and challenge for farmers when they predate their livestock, causing damage to them. A properly installed electric fence can be an effective measure to protect livestock from depredation.

Human-carnivore conflict prevention is one of LECA’s main pillars. We believe it is essential to help livestock keepers protect their herds and property while also promoting the well-being of large carnivore populations. In this regard, WWF Hungary supports Hungarian livestock keepers with distributing electric fences to those who live and farm in an area where large carnivores are present. Construction and maintenance of these equipments needs some time and practice. Therefore WWF Hungary produced a tutorial video in which their experts demonstrate step-by-step how to install an electric fence system that is effective against predators and highlight common mistakes which should be avoided. The video is available on WWF Hungary’s YouTube channel with English subtitles.
