Regional Kick-Off in Zittau: Strengthening Cross-Border Cooperation in the Three-Country Area

Date: 24.03.2025

On March 12, 2025, Zittau (Germany) hosted the regional kick-off conference for the pilot on integrated cross-border strategy development. Around 40 participants from Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic gathered to discuss the region’s challenges and opportunities for deeper integration.

Workshops explored the importance of “mental bridges” in everyday life in the Three-Country Area, shaping the mutual perception of the joint region and neighbourly relations through their relevance for commuting, shopping, education, health services, tourism and recreation.

The mayors of Zittau (DE), Bogatynia (PL), and Hrádek nad Nisou (CZ) highlighted the need for better transport connectivity and seamless travel to boost economic and social development. They also stressed the value of innovative, citizen-focused approaches for the region’s future.

This dialogue will continue in autumn 2025 with a mid-term stakeholder conference in Lower Silesia (PL), fostering further cooperation and strategic development.
