Seminar in Cesena Explores Carbon Farming and Soil Health

Date: 11.03.2025
On February 27, 2025, RINOVA, in collaboration with the University of Bologna, hosted a seminar on carbon farming at its experimental farm “Martorano 5” in Cesena, Italy. The event gathered farmers, advisors, researchers, and policymakers to discuss soil health, carbon sequestration, and practical soil assessment methods.

Policymakers from the Emilia-Romagna Region joined the discussions, facilitating a direct exchange of ideas on how carbon farming can be integrated into agricultural policies and practices.

The seminar featured expert presentations from University of Bologna researchers, focusing on bio-functional indicators for soil organic carbon accumulation and the Visual Soil Assessment (VSA) method, a hands-on approach for evaluating soil quality. Attendees then moved to the field for a live demonstration of the method in action.

Further sessions explored experimental data and key findings on carbon farming practices in Emilia-Romagna, emphasizing strategies for improving soil health and increasing carbon sequestration.

The event concluded with a roundtable discussion, where farmers, advisors, researchers, and policymakers shared insights and perspectives on the future of sustainable soil management.
