Sharing practices and elaborating policies on freight transport in the Danube Region

Date: 03.12.2024

The 8th stakeholder conference The Danube Region Transport Days – DRTD 2024 entitled “Boosting sustainable transport and connectivity” was held on Tuesday, 3rd December 2024 in Ljubljana.

The conference was organised by the coordinators of EUSDR PA 1b (the Slovenian Ministry of Infrastructure and the Serbian Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure) in cooperation with the UNECE. Since 2012, EUSDR PA 1b assembles its valued stakeholders e.g. from the European Commission, academia, financing institutions, business representatives and interested general public to collect input across the diverse participants, advance standards of best practice and enable networking. The purpose of the annual Stakeholders’ Conference was to identify guiding principles for selected topics in transport, ascertain the current performance in these areas, and determine how the implementation of EUSDR PA 1b towards its mission can be further improved. The conference outcomes also provided valuable input for the participants who were able to learn what are the most needed research and project activities for enhanced mobility and multimodality in the Danube Region.

The objective of Stakeholder Conferences was to achieve high level of understanding and support for a common vision on infrastructure and mobility needs in coming years (until 2030, 2040 and 2050) for road, rail and air transport, the “Danube Region Transport Days”, being important for awareness raising and understanding that joint efforts are needed for the international/cross-border projects with clear added value for the Danube Region.

This year presentations and discussions were focused on three topics according to the proposed agenda:

a)      macro-regional connectivity and beyond;

b)      new trends in rail transport;

c)      projects with added value for macro-regions.

During the conference, Mr. Alberto Cozzi, representing the Lead Partner of ACCESSMILE, illustrated the project’s goal, outputs and expected results and their implications for the Danube Region.
