In the city of Copernicus dreaming of dark skies

Date: 14.11.2024
The last days of October were an opportunity for the DarkerSky4CE partnership to meet live again to plan future actions.

Where better than Toruń, the city of the astronomer Copernicus?

As guests of the Polish project partner Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship, we enjoyed the kind welcome and worked intensively.

In these first months of the project, in addition to planning future actions, the partnership worked on two main outcomes:

– The writing of 6 reports at national level to analyse different aspects related to light pollution such as the sources of light pollution, the evolution over the years, the studies carried out on the topic and the organisations already working on the topic. In addition to an introduction at national level, the research focused on pilot sites that will be the focus of actions in the second part of the project.

– The preparation and establishment of a DarkerSky Sentinel Alliance, a forum for organisations working on the topic of dark skies and light pollution reduction. In our idea, a place to network, exchange views, share communication and action strategies.

These are only the results that will be achieved in the short term; during the meeting, many other actions were discussed, on which work has already begun and which will take shape in the coming months.

In conclusion, we can say that it was a fruitful meeting, both from the point of view of advancing actions and getting to know each other better, which is fundamental for the smooth running of a project… and for strengthening the European spirit!
