Weiz, Austria (2-3 July 2024) — The Innovation Centre Weiz recently embarked on a successful excursion to Wunsiedel, Germany, to explore the town’s pioneering renewable energy projects and sector coupling initiatives. This visit provided valuable insights into the future of sustainable energy and advanced technology integration.
Since the early 2000s, Wunsiedel has been at the forefront of renewable energy adoption. In 2004, the town implemented its first photovoltaic (PV) system, funded through a community involvement model. This marked the beginning of significant advancements towards energy self-sufficiency, with Siemens Energy playing a crucial role through various pilot projects. Notably, the integration of an electrical storage system and an electrolyser into the town’s heat and power grid stands out as a remarkable achievement. Today, Wunsiedel serves as a permanent showcase for Siemens Energy, frequently hosting customers to demonstrate these cutting-edge technologies in action.
The Innovation Centre Weiz looks forward to integrating these insights and technologies to further advance renewable energy initiatives and sector coupling projects in Weiz and beyond.
