WEEE Lives: A Pilot Action of Circular WEEEP

Date: 28.03.2025
The WEEE Lives pilot action successfully collected 20 tons of e-waste, working in collaboration with recycling centers and REUSE centers. Schools played a crucial role in raising awareness and driving action towards responsible e-waste management.

The CPU Reuse Center from Slovenia, Municipality of Rogaška Slatina, and the City of Lublin are the leader and co-leadera of this pilot action, respectively, playing a pivotal role in its implementation and success.

E-Waste Collection in Lublin, Poland

In Lublin, five schools participated in the e-waste collection campaign, accumulating 2,150 pieces of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). The breakdown of collected items includes:

1,178 pieces of small WEEE (55%)

972 pieces of IT WEEE (45%)

As a reward for their efforts, the winning school received a modern waste sorting station, while students from the top-performing classes were gifted prizes for their engagement. To further reinforce the importance of e-waste management, educational workshops were held from March 3 to 7, 2025, involving 340 students.

E-Waste Collection in Slovenia

Seven schools in Slovenia took part in the initiative, gathering a total of 1,579 WEEE items:

762 pieces of small WEEE (48%)

817 pieces of IT WEEE (52%)

44 pieces of the total WEEE collected are identified for reuse or repair (3%)

All participating schools received commemorative diplomas from the Circular WEEEP project, and students were presented with symbolic gifts in recognition of their efforts. To further deepen their understanding, approximately 70 students will embark on a study visit to a WEEE collection and recycling center on April 22-23, 2025. This visit will include educational workshops focusing on repair and reuse activities.

Other Partners Cooperating on the Pilot Action

Bratislava Old Town: An associate partner of WEEE Lives, collaborating in the design of the e-waste campaign and competition.

Impact and Future Goals

The Circular WEEEP Project, through its WEEE Lives pilot action, is not only collecting significant amounts of e-waste but also fostering a culture of environmental responsibility among young people. By integrating education with hands-on activities, the initiative empowers students to take meaningful action in waste management. Moving forward, the project aims to expand its reach, engaging more schools and communities in the movement toward a sustainable future.
