What about Accessible, Safe and Welcoming Public Spaces in Vienna?

Date: 15.04.2024
Five people who have overcome homelessness participated in the workshop, alongside two social workers from Peer-Campus neunerhaus. They shared their expertise to help create inclusive and climate-adapted public spaces in Vienna. Workshop Highlights: • Expert Perspectives: Participants shared insights on the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness, highlighting issues like the lack of safe spaces, defensive architecture, and the need for more inclusive amenities. • Co-creation: The workshop fostered creativity, with participants designing public spaces that are accessible, safe, and welcoming for all. Ideas included public awareness teams, lockers for storing valuables with phone charging functions, a shower bus and free hygiene facilities and toilets, free WiFi for responsible pet care in parks, and digital screens with important information in multiple languages. The workshop atmosphere was positive and productive, with each participant bringing valuable insights to the table. Results of the workshop were shared with the City of Vienna stakeholders responsible for “Wiener Klimateams,” an initiative aimed at involving citizens in developing and implementing climate-adapted public spaces.
