Workshop in Pilot Area Znojmo/North Lower Austria (CZ/AT): Czech Associated Partners and Stakeholders Workshop

Date: 08.11.2024

The Czech Environmental Information Agency and CzechGlobe organised the Regional workshop of the Wildfire CE project, which aims to improve prevention and intervention in wildfires. The event took place on 18 October 2024 in the Podyjí National Park. In addition to CENIA and CzechGlobe, representatives of the park, the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic, ATACHE (company providing security for the park) and the Department of Crisis Management and Defense of the South Moravian Region were present. The participants of the meeting discussed key issues and presented the first steps leading to more effective management of wildfire risks.

Several main themes emerged from the participants’ discussions, which will be addressed in the project, whether in the context of strategy development, the development of action plans or the development of an online risk assessment platform.

The Wildfire CE project delivers the following key activities:

  • Mapping fuels and fire spread potential in transboundary regions,
  • Development of an online platform for fire risk assessment and firefighting options based on up-to-date data,
  • Improving coordination between regions and emergency services.

The next workshop will take place in the Czech Republic on 11 November for the second pilot area of Bohemian Switzerland with the key stakeholders for the region.
